Emily Swift /Studios - Darkslide Film Lab

Emily runs two businesses out of her studio. There’s her photography business which does two things, it's where she pushes her art career and prints and also she also takes studio portrait bookings. And then there is her film lab. Her Film lab offers film processing, film scanning, as well as traditional darkroom printing. We process C41, E6, and black and white film.

In the depths of my darkroom, I embark on a journey exploring the intersection of history and creativity. My medium is film, and my studio serves as a sanctuary where I craft visual narratives that transcend the ordinary. In the age of digital photography, I remain devoted to the traditional art of darkroom printing. My work breathes life into historic print processes. In each image, I strive to forge a connection between the past and present, bridging the gap between the timeless craft of photography and the ever-evolving modern world.

Studio portrait photography is my muse, offering an intimate glimpse into the souls of my subjects. Each photograph is a testament to the profound connection between photographer and sitter, a dance of trust and vulnerability that yields images that speak volumes.Yet, it is in the darkroom itself that my art truly takes shape. My prints are a testament to the power of experimentation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of darkroom printing. With every dodge, burn, and chemical manipulation, I seek to evoke emotions, create mystery, and provoke thought. My prints are not mere reproductions of reality; they are interpretations, infused with my unique perspective and artistic vision.

Through the interplay of light and chemistry, I challenge the conventional rules of darkroom printing, inviting viewers to explore the nuances and imperfections that make each print a work of art. Shadows become as important as highlights, and textures are etched with a tactile quality that invites viewers to engage with the image on a visceral level.

My art is a reflection of my passion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of photography to transcend time and touch the human soul. I invite you to step into the world of my darkroom, to experience the magic of silver and light, and to witness the profound beauty that emerges when history and artistry collide.
